Visthar is involved in providing training, documentation, campaign and advocacy related services for individuals and organisations. It organises campaigns on development related issues such as nuclearisation and the Narmada dam. The campaign, spread over 3-4 months, is initiated in mainstream and government schools. Children are sensitised to issues through talks, documentaries, storytelling sessions, poster making and other activities. It has a membership forum, Students for Democracy, to promote critical reflection and creative action; and it publishes a newsletter for students on development issues. It also has a gender training programme for schools through two-day workshops. The workshops encourage children to critique gender roles in the family and society, and in the media, through skits, debates and poster making. It organises summer camps in drawing, painting, creative writing and poster making for children from rural and mainstream schools.
