street children, school children, youth
YMCA works with 300 street children in six areas of the city through its Children in Crisis programme. It has a home and night shelter, street contact points, non-formal education and vocational training. It provides health care, counselling, job placement, and treatment for substance abuse. Children who have been rehabilitated form part of a prevention strategy whereby they create awareness in rural areas through street plays, puppet shows and discussions. The programme has reached over 1500 children since its inception. It also offers career and vocational guidance for school and college students, and personality development workshops. As part of its urban ecology and environment protection programme, it organises various environment education and awareness programmes for school children. It conducts recreational and sports activities for young people and offers a wide range of facilities to its members. It has a summer camp for school and college students to develop skills in a variety of fields including sports and games. It has a rural development centre at JP Nagar to address the needs of local families, women and children.
