Ms Roopa Rajendran is a teacher for slow learners and children with learning disability. She is head of a resource centre for special education at a local school, and works with children who have congenital and acquired disabilities, and with parents and teachers. She is involved in diagnosis and remediation, and lays special emphasis on the involvement of teachers and the peer group in helping children cope. She helps teachers design intervention programmes, and creates awareness about learning disability. She plans to start a section at her current school for slow learners who are not able to cope with the regular academic programme.
