Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology has set up a child heart care centre. It has developed several schemes to create awareness about paediatric heart disease among parents, to enable children to lead more healthy lives. Medical investigations for children below one year are done free of cost. The institute conducts a large percentage of heart operations free of cost; 20-25% of all patients get a 50% reduction; and 25% of patients get a 25% reduction in operation costs depending on their financial capacity. The institute has also started a programme, Karuna Sindhu, to provide financial assistance to patients who require heart surgery but do not have the finances. Under this programme, parents can directly approach donors who have pledged a specific sum for a child. Donors can register their names and the amount to be given with the institute. The minimum amount a donor can offer is Rs 5,000.
