Details of Work

The Department of Psychiatry provides assessment and therapy for children with mental health problems through its Child Guidance Clinic. It liases with the paediatric department in St John's Hospital to identify emotional and behavioural problems in children with chronic illnesses. It uses play therapy as a method of treatment. It conducts workshops for teachers in the early identification of child psychiatric problems. It undertakes research, including a study of mental health perceptions in rural communities, and determining problems in children at genetic risk therapy, and refining assessment methods for attention, hyperactivity, and anxiety disorders in children.
