HOPE The Early Intervention Centre was started by Priya Sandeep and Sowmya Kuduvalli to provide quality developmental therapy to children. HOPE focusses on sequential development and normalising development. Its key activities include: Stimulation of milestones in 5 domains: Motor (gross and fine), self help, cognition, language (receptive and expressive) and social-emotional development. It also looks at the stimulation of play stages; and sensory integration. Deviations in development like the loss of eye contact, rigid adherence to structure or routine, preference for repetitive tasks, obsessive need for some objects or activities, are all seen as choices made by the child in a desperate need to gain control over a situation that s/he cannot make sense of. HOPE believes that all delays in development can be addressed through stimulation. Neuro-cognitive development focuses on re-wiring the brain through cognitive stimulation. Meeting sensory needs and providing a basis for receptive and expressive language often takes care of most deviations. The therapist at HOPE facilitates exploration, reasoning and communication. Therapy sessions at HOPE are one-on-one and parents are part of the session. Home programmes are also offered and follow up sessions are 2-3 times a week based on need. Baseline assessments provide a developmental age and quarterly assessments provide parents with an understanding of their child'â„¢s performance. HOPE also provides physiotherapy services for children requiring it.
