Details of Work

The Royal Education Trust runs two schools in the Kundalahalli area. One free lower primary school is located in the slum area of Kundalahalli colony for children of the coolies and factory workers who live there. The other, a high school, is subsidized and fees are charged depending on the income of the parents. The Royal Education Trust also conducts free coaching classes for girls who have failed in the Std 7 and 10 exams and condensed courses for girl drop-outs. These are supported by funds from the Central Social Welfare Advisory Board. The girls appear as private candidates. The Board also funds the Trust to run women's counselling centres to conduct Kannada classes and provide job placement and guidance for divorced and sexually abused women. It also conducts a fortnightly awareness generation programme for the public on issues such as HIV/AIDS and drug addiction. With help from Karnataka's Dept. of Women and Child Development, the Royal Education Trust runs a free crche for 45 children, 2 to 3 years. Located in Kundalahalli village, it caters to the children of coolie workers and provides them with mid-morning tiffin and milk.
