Details of Work

APD runs an integrated school, `Shradhanjali', for 200 disabled and non-disabled children from disadvantaged backgrounds. It has a slum outreach programme in 14 urban slums with formal and non-formal integrated education, home-based training for children, medical and surgical intervention, and vocational training. It runs an appliance centre which provides affordable and innovative aids such as crutches, callipers, body-braces and surgical shoes. It has a physiotherapy unit for therapy and awareness about managing locomotor disabilities, and trains aides in physiotherapy. It also has a rural community-based rehabilitation ( CBR) programme in 10 villages of Kolar district, and conducts a one-year, residential horticulture training programme. Under the CBR umbrella urban slum teachers are trained every quarter on curriculum development and there are also training programmes for mothers. APD has set up pre-primary centres similar to Balwadis and Anganwadis.The teachers are trained on a monthly basis and their skills are upgraded with the help od resource experts.
