Abilities provides support services to persons with disability. All its services are free of cost and individualised. For teachers and students, it transcribes printed material in Kannada, English and Hindi into Braille, such as text books and books on general subjects. It makes large print books and records information on audio cassettes for persons with low vision. It also makes special 'twin vision' story books for children which are printed in normal type and Braille. Visually impaired children can use the Braille section of the book and can follow the stories along with their sighted siblings. It teaches daily living skills, meditation, and Braille, to visually impaired persons and volunteers. It organises computer and typing classes for visually impaired persons, and offers counselling for parents and children, and adults with disability. It can also organise creative activities for children, such as painting, clay modelling, weaving, knitting and making things from waste material. It has been involved in integrated theatre activities and staged plays with normal and disabled persons in English and Kannada. It has a community-based rehabilitation programme in 146 villages in Devanahalli taluka. It provides education, health care and vocational training services to 1200 persons with disability, of which 500 are children.
