spastic and mentally challenged children, 1-18 years, economically disadvantaged children included
Fame India works with spastic and mentally challenged children through different projects. Under its Uthpanna project, it runs a vocational training centre with technical assistance from the Spastics Society of Karnataka. The center has 23 children and imparts skills in block-printing, paper-bag making, foot-mat weaving, tailoring, computers, making of greeting cards, files and folders from hand-made paper. Fees are charged according to the children's economic status. The Utpal project provides early intervention for the disabled child in the 1-10 year age group. This involves counselling the parents about the child, speech therapy, physiotherapy and special education for children. Once a year, it conducts Utsav, which is a cultural and sports event for children with all types of disabilities. Various organisations are invited to perform in music, dance, theatre, and sports. Fame India also works in sensitising the public towards disabilities. Under its Uthejana project, it has adopted four schools and one college where it conducts awareness programmes through guest lectures, documentaries and field trips.
