high school children, teachers
The Indian Social Institute, in collaboration with Mithra Foundation* and Society for People's Action for Development, has developed a curriculum for human rights education. The curriculum, initially introduced in Tamil Nadu, has reached over 40,000 children. In Bangalore, it has been implemented in 15 schools for students in Std 8 and 9. The syllabus includes an introduction to human, child and gender rights, and the rights of marginalised groups. The methodology involves practical activities including role play, essays and debates. Training is provided to teachers in each implementing school. It also plans to work with the government to introduce the curriculum in a broader spectrum of schools.
