Dr Nayana Tara is an educator committed to the cause of children's education, especially of disadvantaged groups. Her doctorate in education focussed on the creativity and personality of adolescent children. Her areas of concern include the education and health of children. She is the author of two books, one on the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme and one on rural education. She works primarily in the area of elementary education. She has been working the DPEP* since 1992 in the area of elementary education management in rural areas, and is involved in a programme on Total Quality Management of Elementary Education in tribal areas of Karnataka. She is also working on a language competency based textbook for Std 5.
