urban and rural children; teachers
Ms Lalitha Subbarao is a sociologist and educator. She runs a school up to Std 7 for village children from ten villages in South Bangalore. She is also setting up a primary rural health centre for the community. She conducts workshops on Concentrated Language Encounter (CLE) for teachers and educators working with rural and urban children, and adult education learners. CLE is a non-traditional method for literacy tutoring that originated in Australia and is now used as part of literacy programmes in several developing countries. It is a low-cost, creative method that empowers learners to become literate through creating their own textbooks related to daily life, and by stimulating thinking and imagination, thereby making learning pleasurable. She also runs a pre-primary centre for urban children.
