The Alternative Schools Network is an informal group of individuals with an 'alternative' viewpoint, who are active in the field of education. The group of about 40 members belong to the southern states of India, and are involved in schools or educational programmes that are small in size. The network meets once a year for about 2-3 days for a free-flowing sharing of concerns. Some of the themes discussed have included spirituality and education, and creativity and craft in school. Over the last 6 years the network has grown to be a community, a fellowship of like-minded persons. The reports of the network meetings are informally circulated, and the network is open to linking with other such groups across the country to create a groundswell to transform education from within and from the grassroots upwards. The schools listed above are all members of the network.
