Sanjivini adopts a holistic health approach, promoting physical, mental, social, emotional and environmental health. It tailors programmes to the needs of each group that it works with, providing knowledge and understanding for effective health practice. Sanjivini Trust has a project at the Ambedkarnagar slum and the target of this project was malnourished children below five years of age , and the training of slum women in the role of health animators, arming them with information and knowledge on primary childcare, which included immunisation, malnutrition, prevailing attitudes and food taboos. The project covers about 200 children. Sanjivini has tackled the problem of malnourishment by organising the slum women to manufacture a nutrition supplement. This also provides the women employment. It has a health education programme in five middle and high schools, where it provides information about nutrition, personal health and hygiene, sex education and reproductive health, STDs and HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, motherhood and child care, and social issues related to health. It has health programmes for children in non-formal education centres, for children with special needs, and children in difficult circumstances. It uses puppetry for health education. It trains teachers, health animators, social and health workers, and the staff of NGOs. It is also a member of the Child-to-Child South India Resource Group, which promotes the child-to-child approach in development projects. It also provides health inputs for government projects, including balwadi and balsevika training.
