Details of Work

The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium has shows for the public every afternoon between 3.00-4.00, with three shows exclusively for schools in the morning. Its science centre, Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE), has programmes that aim to popularise science education using non-formal teaching methods among high school students and college students. It organises a Science in Action exhibition twice a year to encourage creativity in children, and runs the Kit of the Kwarter Klub, which emphasises experiential learning of science concepts. It has weekend sessions for high school and college students in which scientists from renowned institutes in the city participate. It disseminates information and guidelines for watching celestial events like eclipses and meteor showers. It screens Science Scope, a short movie on science-related topics, and Science Watch, a brief presentation on the latest research in various fields including physics, chemistry, life sciences, mechanics, technology and astrophysics. It assists students to undertake projects in various scientific topics using computers and the latest techniques in data analysis. It has interactive sessions between students and scientists that helps them pursue a career in science. It also conducts special programmes for children with disability.
