Ms Kathyayini Chamaraj is a freelance journalist. She has written for several local and national newspapers, magazines and NGO publications on the unorganised sectors of labour, women's development, child labour, primary education and civic governance. She has researched and scripted a documentary film on child labour, including four television spots, for the Department of Labour*, Karnataka; and she has produced radio features for All India Radio, Bangalore, on issues related to women and child labour. She was the recipient of the 17th People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) 'Journalism for Human Rights' award in 1987, and the 'Born Free' award for her contribution to child rights, by Janothsava and United Games of Nations - International in 1998. She works in conjunction with government agencies and NGOs in preparing documents and seminar reports. She has been a member of Jeevika*, and is a member of the Campaign Against Child Labour*, Bangalore Chapter, and various civic organisations in the city.
