Mr Dattatreya Aralikatte is a teacher and an award winning puppeteer. He has performed and participated in national and international puppet festivals and seminars. He produced Puranakathamala, a television serial about puppet theatre, in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. He has authored a paper, My experiments with Puppets, for the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). He co-founded Putthali Kalaranga, a puppet theatre troupe, to revive this art form in Karnataka. His puppet shows convey not just a story but many aspects of our cultural tradition, drawing on literature, music, mythology, dance, and Yakshagana. He is currently working on a puppet show focusing on the girl child, and a lecture-demonstration in association with an environmental education centre. He is also a radio artist. He publishes a monthly magazine, Suddi Sarika, and an annual magazine, Udayaravi, for school children. He is the recipient of several state and national awards, including the Excellency in Education Award from DSERT*, and the Karnataka State Janapada and Yakshagana Academy Award.
