Aim Makkala Jagriti, an NGO, works with underprivileged children in the area of education to make a 'positive differenece to a child's quality of learning and development, thereby making it a meaningful life journey'.

Details of Work

Makkala Jagriti supports children from economically disadvantaged families by sponsoring their education, and working with their parents and teachers. Makkala Jagriti has four centres in Bangalore that reach out to around 400 children. They are located at Adugodi (the pilot project), Ulsoor, HSR Layout and Seshadripuram. The facilities at the learning centre include a library, reading and writing programmes including English conversation, computer literacy programmes, creativity workshops, yoga, health and hygiene, periodic workshops on personality development and life skills, and monthly meetings with parents. The children come to the centres from economically disadvantaged communities such as construction workers, domestic workers and vegetable vendors. The centres also attract many school dropouts who have rejoined the education system.
