children, teachers, parents, schools
The Malleswaram Dyslexia Association was started in June 2008 and is the result of efforts by a group of parents to increase awareness and help on dyslexia; borne out of their own experience of having faced considerable resistance and difficulty from regular schools in admitting children with dyslexia. The Association has started one resource room within the premises of a partner school in Malleswaram (Bangalore). The present option for most children with dyslexia who are unable to cope or those who are asked to leave school, is to opt for the National Institute of Open Schooling that follows the CBSE syllabus. A key effort of the Association is to initiate an open school that caters to children studying the state syllabus. This would form the main focus of its work in the coming year. The Association also hopes to initiate more resource rooms within the premises of existing schools that evince interest; the Association would train the staff and guide them to work with children with dyslexia. The Association includes parents, special educators and other experienced persons in the field.
