schools, teachers, students, community and the State
Through the dot-EDU India Technology Tools for Teaching and Training (T4) project, EDC supports and strengthens education and learning systems in India to achieve their Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan goals using customised ICT interventions and content for teachers, students and education officials. The T4 project is funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) The impact of T4 is grounded in its five key elements 1) a strong consultative process; 2) quality products; 3) local partnerships; 4) the use of innovative tools and methods; and 5) its potential for replication on a larger scale. The T4 approach features interactive audio, video, and software learning tools that set a precedent for education quality reaching populations across India, including girls and other vulnerable populations. The project has over 550 technology products, in audio, video or software formats, designed to enhance student learning in Grades 1-5, complemented by extensive teacher training and monitoring. Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) programmes: EDC recognises radio as a tremendous resource for effective learning and has worked closely with the State government to develop interactive radio programs in a variety of subjects based on the curriculum and targeting the needs defined by teachers themselves. The IRI lessons engage students through local stories, songs and physical activities, while supporting teachers in developing student-centred teaching skills. Educational Videos : EDCâ„¢s educational video programmes guide and model project-based learning approaches that support students and teachers in difficult-to-teach content areas in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. This includes 40 videos telecast on the Government of India's EDUSAT satellite. Group Teaching & Learning (GTL) Multimedia Software : The GTL software brings teachers and students together to conduct interactive activities around a single computer. Students explore various science topics through a rich combination of learning resources for use both on and off the computer. Digital Library (DL) : Hosted by the National Informatics Center (NIC) Karnataka, the DL is an on-line searchable catalogue of learning materials in audio, video and print formats. It allows teachers to access all dot-EDU India T4 learning materials as well as those produced by government and private/public sector providers. In addition to Karnataka, the T4 project is active in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. It will be implemented in Rajasthan and Delhi from the academic year 2008-09.
