VVCH was the first children's hospital in the city, set up by the Maharaja of Mysore. It is a government hospital that provides free health care services to children. It has outpatient and inpatient facilities, and special clinics for children with cardiac problems (Wed 2.00-4.00), children with tuberculosis (Mon 2.00-4.00) and a well-baby clinic (Thur 2.00-4.00). It offers free immunisation programmes, and distribution of free oral rehydration solution packets. It provides 24-hour emergency services.
