Details of Work

Jeevika works for the conscientisation and organisation of bonded labourers and agricultural workers. Its `Back to School' 'programme is a one-year residential bridge course for working children to help them enrol in an appropriate higher primary class. It has adapted Paolo Freire's' method for literacy. It undertakes analysis of the situation of working children, and motivates panchayat members and village elders to ensure that all working children go to school. It appoints supplementary teachers and provides in-service training to teachers in government schools. It has a cultural troupe that creates awareness about bonded and working children. It also lobbies to implement policies for bonded labour.
